So, our review will definitely help you to choose the device you need and not to get confused with all this variety of models on the market.
HF3500 and HF3505 – are inexpensive alarm clocks with basic functions, which are quite enough to provide you with comfortable waking up process.
HF3520 and HF3510 — are more like premium class models with improved functions (higher intensity, additional melodies, sunset light). However, they cost more as well.

This is my story
Waking up early has never been an easy task for me (before I got Somneo Sleep, of course). I have always wanted to be an early riser: wake up with pleasure, have my morning run and healthy breakfast after it, and then go to work in a good mood. Instead of these, all I could do in the morning was just to wash my face, brush my teeth, drink a cup of coffee and hope to get a vacant seat in a subway to have a nap during my way to work.
I tried to plan my morning, motivate myself to catch up with all I have planned. I set my alarm clock to wake up at earlier time and thought to myself: “Tomorrow is the day when I will wake up earlier and have my morning run”. However, once the alarm clock started ringing I caught myself thinking: ”Well, it’s not a big deal, I can start running tomorrow”.
My brain was desperately opposing to all my plans giving the top of priorities to sleep. In the end I started asking myself: “Why can’t I wake up on time? What is wrong with me?”
Well, I guess there was nothing with me, it was the environment around me that was wrong.
So, what has given me the idea to buy Somneo Sleep?
I came across a study on how light influences us both before we go to sleep and before we wake up. It appears that our body has some kind of internal clock that “synchronizes” with our environment. This clock is called “circadian rhythm”.
It is influenced by external factors including light and temperature. However, loud sounds, like noisy alarm clock have completely no impact on a circadian rhythm.
So, the sun changes its light and temperature in the morning. Luckily, windows of my room looked to the East, though the curtains were always tightly closed. That’s why I moved them a bit aside to see if the sun wakes me up next morning.
Sunlight prepares you to waking up before the alarm clock starts ringing. This way it has become very easy to get up from a bed, it has seemed very easy and natural.
You surely know how easy it is to wake up on Sunday, when you don’t have to go anywhere. This is what I felt every day, when the sun woke me up and the alarm clock just gave me a signal to get up when I need.
This lasted the whole summer. I felt great, waking up early wasn’t a problem any more. I used to get up easily and start my day as I wanted.
But then autumn came and the sun rose later and later each next day. Moreover, I got another job in October and I had to wake up at 6 a.m. instead of 7 in the morning. It meant that I had to get up when it was still dark. This is when I realized how I miss the sun in the morning.
“There must be some way out”, I thought to myself one dark autumn morning when putting myself together just to get up from the bed. In the evening of the same day I found a perfect solution for my problem in the Internet – it was a Wake Up Light alarm clock and I’ll tell you about it in this review.
My experience of using Wake Up Light alarm clock
Important: though this post is more about the disadvantages, still – it is more comfortable and pleasant to wake up with this Wake Up Light alarm clock.
You aren’t pulled out from a dream by some abrupt sounds that make you almost jump out from the bed. Everything happens gradually and very gently. The same has happened to the process of falling asleep – it has become more smooth, all daytime thoughts leave your head and you mind relaxes.
The light becomes stronger unnoticeably – from quite glow to very bright light. So, here you will have to experiment to make it not to shine right into your face. My model of the device appeared to be a very bright one, but all the parameters are adjustable.
From all options of audio sounds I’ve opted for nature sounds, as it is said in the advert – they are the best to wake you up gently and at that your brain doesn’t get that it is an alarm clock. I’ve experimented with sea sounds, but it didn’t work – I just didn’t get what it was when being half-asleep and it took me several seconds to finally get that it was my alarm clock.
The sound of the alarm clock is actually a very important thing – this is what starts your day. It really has to make you feel comfortable. It’s a small, but an important thing.
There were the times when I used to wake up to go to school and university using TV alarm clock. The TV just turned on at some preset time and started broadcasting some channel. The thing is that I woke up not from hearing TV presenter talking, but from the clicking sound the TV made when turning on (it wasn’t a modern flat TV, so it was quite a loud sound). Even now I still hate this sound and jump up each time I hear it. What I’m driving at is that I’m not sure that I’ll enjoy listening to birds singing every morning for the rest of my life.
Another issue is: to delay the alarm clock signal for 10 minutes, sleepy you have to turn over, take your hand under the blanket and try to grope for the alarm clock. At that it doesn’t always respond to pushing the button on it. So, again after all of these efforts you have already woken up. Another risk is that if you try to turn it off blindly you may turn it over even on the floor. Though the device it round shaped and it won’t break, still you’ll wake up instead of having some more sleep.
